Violent Clash in Rajiv Nagar After Wedding Called Off, 12 Injured
Nagpur, India: A violent clash erupted in the Rajiv Nagar area of Nagpur on Saturday night after a bride canceled her wedding, leaving twelve people injured, including four in critical condition. The fight broke out between members of the Gawte, Kale, Pote, and Dulange families, all of whom are relatives living in the area.
According to police, the trouble started when the marriage of Prakash Pote’s daughter to a member of the Dulange family was called off due to the bride’s health issues. This sparked tensions between the families.
Around 10 p.m., an argument between Janardhan Gawte and Vicky Kale escalated into a physical fight. Soon, more family members, including Kailas Pote, Rohidas Pote, Suraj Kale, and several from the Dulange family, joined in. The situation turned violent, with both sides using swords and throwing stones.
Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control. The injured were taken to a private hospital for treatment. The police have deployed additional forces to the area to prevent further violence.
The MIDC police have filed cases against several individuals from both families on charges of rioting and armed assault. Those named include Raju Gawte, Anand Gawte, Purushottam Dulange, and others.
Meanwhile, false rumors spread on social media claiming that five people had died in the clash. Police officials have urged the public not to believe or share unverified information.
