Virat Kohli Secures ICC ODI Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2023
Indian cricket luminary Virat Kohli clinched the ICC ODI Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2023 accolade, as officially announced on Thursday.
In this prestigious race, Kohli outshone strong contenders such as teammates Shubhman Gill and Mohammad Shami. Notably, this marks Kohli's fourth win of the award, having previously claimed it in 2012, 2017, and 2018. This achievement makes him the first cricketer to secure the honor four times, surpassing AB de Villiers, who won it thrice.
In the cricketing calendar of 2023, Kohli demonstrated his prowess by amassing an impressive 2,048 runs across 36 international innings. Despite losing in the finals of the ICC ODI World Cup, Kohli's stellar performance earned him the Player of the Tournament Award. Notably, he notched up eight centuries in 2023, surpassing even the leading run-scorer, Shubhman Gill. Kohli and Gill stood out as the sole batters to breach the 2000-run mark in the year.
