VNIT Road Construction Completed, Opens for Traffic
Nagpur, India- The construction of a road inside the campus of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) was completed late Monday night. The administration will open the road for vehicular traffic starting Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Shashikant Satav reported that the road construction was finished late Monday night. Following this, the compound wall was demolished, and road leveling work continued into the night. "If possible, the road will be opened for vehicular traffic movement in the morning," he stated.
Designated hours for vehicular traffic are from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and 5 pm to 7 pm. A notification regarding this has been issued by DCP Traffic Satav, which will remain in effect until August 15.
The work began after VNIT management agreed to temporarily open its 1.2 km road exclusively for two-wheelers through its campus. It took nearly three days to fully operationalize the road.
During the process, a section of VNIT's compound wall opposite the Indian Oil Petrol Pump was demolished to facilitate vehicle entry. The stretch from this point to Gate No. 3 will be designated exclusively for two-wheelers, with four-wheelers prohibited. Traffic police will deploy barricades and plastic cones at each junction. Traffic movement may be briefly halted during student movements for safety.
Vehicles coming from Hingna will turn right at the Shri Gajanan Maharaj Mandir T-point and enter the VNIT campus near the Indian Oil Petrol Pump. After passing through the VNIT campus, two-wheelers will exit at Yashwant Nagar Square, near Ambazari Police Chowki (Gate No. 3 of VNIT).
It is noteworthy that during Thursday's hearing, Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Abhay Mantri at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court took a strong stance and compelled the State Government and the district administration to utilize their discretionary powers to address the access issue inside the VNIT campus.
