Vritika and Sahajveer are the Nagpur Under-13 Champions
On September 24, 2023, at Vivekanand Hall, Shraddha House, Kingsway, close to Kasturchand Park, Nagpur, the Nagpur District Under-13 Open and Girls Chess Championship, which was organized by the Nagpur Chess Association in collaboration with the G.H.Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and the Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation, was won by Sahajveeer Singh Maras in the Open Group and Vritika Game in the Girls Group.
Sahajveer, Rutam Yogesh Zanwar, and Yuval Sunil Mohurle all finished with six points after seven rounds in the Under-13 open group, however Sahajveer was proclaimed the champion due to a stronger tie-breaking score, with Rutam coming in second. On the merit list, Yuval came in third. With a score of 5 1/2 points, Amitav Ramteke was forced to settle for fourth place.
Vritika Game and Shraddha Bajaj both scored 6 12 points in the Girls Under-13 Group, well above the other competitors. Shraddha received the Runners-up position, and Vritika Game was crowned the winner based on tie-breaking scores. Bhakti Vonod Titarmare placed third with 5 points, followed by Prissha Rathod in fourth with 4 12 points.
The Nagpur District will be represented at the Maharashtra Under-13 Chess Championship later this year by Sahajveer Maras and Rutam Yogesh Zanwar in the Open Under-13 Group and Vritika Game and Shraddha Bajaj in the Girls Under-13 Group.
The chief guest, Smt. Kamal Chandwani, director of Kids Universe Laxmandas School of Scholors Preschool and Day Care and professor at KDK College of Engineering, handed out prizes. Chess coaches Shri Akash Rewatkar and Shri Bhushan Shriwas, as well as representatives from the Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation, were present. The proceedings were overseen by Shri S. S. Soman, who also proposed a vote of thanks.
The Top 10 winners in each group received trophies and medals. Additionally, medals were awarded to the top finishers in the Open and Girls divisions for the Under-7, Under-9, and Under-11 age groups. The event was successfully run by FA Shiva Iyer, Chief Arbiter, with assistance from FA Amit Tembhurne, SNA Prayas Ambade, and Prathmesh Machave.
