Water Supply Disruption Hits Half of Nagpur City Following 30-Hour Shutdown

Nagpur, India: Nagpur residents in several areas are facing a significant disruption in their water supply as the city has commenced a planned 30-hour shutdown of the Pench-II and Pench-II water treatment plants. The shutdown began at 10:00 AM on Monday and will continue until 4:00 PM on Tuesday.

The shutdown is part of essential maintenance work, which includes the installation of an end plate on a 1200mm diameter Pench-I Feeder at Seminary Hills MBR, interconnection work for the Bus bar of elevated consumers at the same location, repair of the sluice valve at Laxmi Nagar Old Feeder, and the replacement of a 400mm diameter Branch Valve at Gittikhadan GSR. Additionally, leakage repairs at the Filter House Channel at Pench-II Water Treatment Plant are also part of the work being carried out.

Affected Areas and Supply Resumption Timeline

Residents in many parts of Nagpur will be without water during the shutdown. While the city works to restore the water supply, it is expected that the normalisation of service will only occur by Tuesday night, as the water must travel from the treatment plant to the overhead tanks across the city.

Important Advisory for Residents

The Orange City Water (OCW) team has advised residents in the affected areas to store sufficient water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdown period. The restoration of the water supply will take some time after the shutdown, as water needs to be pumped to overhead tanks across the city, causing delays in resumption.

Citizens are also encouraged to contact the NMC-OCW helpline at 1800 266 9899 or email [email protected] for further information or assistance regarding the water supply issue.

The OCW has also assured that they are working to minimise the impact of the shutdown and ensure that the system returns to normal as quickly as possible.
