Woman Severely Injured in Vicious Stray Dog Attack in Kannamwar Nagar
Nagpur, India- In a shocking incident this morning, a pack of stray dogs brutally attacked a woman named Shubhangi during her routine walk in Kannamwar Nagar. The incident has sparked renewed calls for action against the growing menace of stray dogs in the city.
The attack occurred during Shubhangi's morning walk with a friend. Without warning, a snarling stray dog pounced on her, followed by several others. The dogs dragged her to the ground and bit her multiple times on her hands and body. Despite her screams for help, it was her friend who managed to scare the dogs away by throwing stones at them.
Bleeding heavily from deep wounds, Shubhangi struggled to find help. It was early in the morning, with no autorickshaws or passersby around, and she did not have her cell phone. With her friend's assistance, Shubhangi walked over a kilometer back home and climbed more than 40 steps to her apartment, where her husband nearly fainted upon seeing her condition.
Her husband rushed her to a nearby doctor, who advised immediate transfer to a government hospital for better treatment. They then took her to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in MIHAN, where she began a difficult battle for her life. The doctors reported severe multiple lacerated wounds and administered rabies immunoglobulin. The painful treatment involved extracting poison from the wounds and giving numerous injections.
Throughout her ordeal, Shubhangi showed remarkable courage, reciting prayers for strength. Her family, including her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and brother, stood by her side. Despite the severity of her injuries, she managed to write about her experience, documenting her struggle and resilience in Marathi.
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of stray dog attacks in Nagpur, which has seen numerous such incidents. Public outcry and media coverage have increased, but there appears to be little response from the administration. Residents report that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s stray dog squad often relocates dogs rather than addressing the root problem, leaving many areas still vulnerable.
In one recent case, a woman fell and broke her leg after being attacked by dogs, while another narrowly avoided serious injury from sharp steel rods during an attack. In a particularly gruesome incident, a 72-year-old woman was attacked by six dogs, leaving her severely injured and her survival uncertain.
The growing danger from stray dogs has led to frustration among citizens, who feel that only an attack on a political leader or bureaucrat might spur the administration into action. The lack of an effective response has left many residents feeling unsafe on the streets of Nagpur.
