Work on Nagpur Airport Runway Nears Completion, Deadline Set for March 31

Nagpur: The recarpeting work on the airstrip at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur will be completed by March 31, 2025. The contractor has promised MIHAN India Limited (MIL), the Airport Authority of India (AAI), and the monitoring committee that the work will be finished on time.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari visited the site last month and warned the contractor to complete the work or face consequences.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Nagpur’s Guardian Minister, told the media that 60% of the work has been completed so far, and the remaining 40% will be finished by March 31.

The contractor, M/s K G Gupta, was criticised for delays, leading to the formation of a monitoring committee to ensure progress. Girdhari Mantri, a committee member, said that the critical layer on the airstrip has been completed, and the final work is underway.

Since the work started in May 2024, the runway has been available for only 8 hours each day, causing inconvenience to passengers. This has also led to higher flight fares.

Dr Vipin Itankar, the District Collector, is overseeing the project and said the authorities are working to finish the recarpeting ahead of schedule to reduce passenger inconvenience.
